In addition to our weekly classes, our Drama School Burton, Newhall and Derby holds both an Easter School in April and 2 Summer School weeks in August every year. These holiday workshops have run successfully for 8 years; endless numbers of students have taken part and created a show in a week... that's no small task! Here, children between the ages of 5-18 years can come along and learn the songs, dances and drama from famous musicals and then perform in a full performance at the end of the week in front of family and friends.
To date our Easter and Summer Schools have included: An African Experience (2008), High School Musical (2009) The Wizard of Oz (2010) Oliver (2011) Disney’s Aladdin (2012) Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (Easter 2013) Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Summer 2013) Disney's The Jungle Book (Easter 2014) The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (Easter 2014) Fame The Musical (Summer 2014) The Aristocats (Easter 2015) The Little Mermaid (Summer 2015) Peter Pan (Easter 2016) Annie (Summer 2016) and most recently Madagascar (Easter 2017)
Summer School 2017: Disney's Cinderella
Or The Addams Family!
This year you have a choice! Cinderella is for 5-16 year olds and The Addams Family is for 11-18 year olds.
The timeless, “rags to riches” fairy tale becomes a new audience favorite in Disney’s Cinderella KIDS, an adaptation of the treasured animated film that will charm its way into your heart and remind audiences that dreams really can come true.
Poor Cinderella is endlessly mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and denied a chance to go to the royal ball. With a little help from her mice friends – and a lot of help from her Fairy Godmother – Cinderella’s dreams come true. She goes to the ball, meets the Prince and falls in love!
The Addams Family features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
The Cinderella week will run from Monday 31st July – Friday 4th August (performance day.) The Addams Family week will run from Monday 31st July – Thursday 3rd August plus Saturday 5th August (performance day.) Both will take place at The William Allitt School in Newhall. Each day will start at 9:30am and finish at 3:30pm. Students will need to bring a packed lunch with them everyday. On the last day there will be a performance for family and friends in the afternoon. There will be 6 members of staff to teach and supervise.
The week will consist of 5 hours tuition each day (plus break and lunchtime) for 5 days. The summer school will cost just £115, however for Theatre Cats students it will be at the discounted price of £95.
The summer school has already attracted great interest, however, there are only 30 places available for each show and places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
